SAFELY DELIVERED PREEMIES THRIVE

Mahlogonolo Thobile

BACKGROUND

Giving birth to a preemie in November 2014, was a pain to purpose experience that inspired Moshala Mothiba to create a support platform for Prem Moms and Prem Babies. She conceived a vision to establish Mahlogonolo Thobile Foundation.

The Foundation was established to support our warriors and their families to walk this difficult and emotional journey. By sharing our experiences, new prem mothers can find comfort in seeing other mothers thrive and hear that they share emotional similarities.

All mothers give birth at different times which makes everyone’s situation distinctive and unique. As the foundation, we take solace in knowing the commonality of the emotional pain, trauma, and uncertainty we’ve endured.
We draw wisdom and understanding from each other.

LABOUR OF LOVE

Moshala’s commitment, hard work, determination, support from Dr Audrey Gugu Gamedze (Gynaecologist & Obstetrician) and Dr Dalubuhle Ndiweni (Paediatrician) and an incredible coach Nokuthula Magwaza, together with her marketing agency Bloom Marketing brought Moshala’s vision to life.

GRATEFUL TO NURTURE THIS DREAM TO FULL TERM PREGNANCY

After 7 months of hard work, we were ready to deliver Mahlogonolo Thobile Foundation in November 2019, which coincide with Prematurity Awareness Month.

INTRODUCING MAHLOGONOLO THOBILE FOUNDATION

Mahlogonolo Thobile Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Moshala Mothiba to help babies born prematurely and reach out to the mothers. The foundation was founded based on her personal experience in 2014 when she was pregnant with her daughter and gave birth to a prem baby. Our mission is to raise awareness of the different challenges women go through and the cause of premature birth. Mostly by placental abruption, fetal distress, preeclampsia, premature rupture of membranes, pregnancy-induced hypertension, to name a few causes of premature birth. We aim to support women and children from different backgrounds and orphanage homes for women and children. We will also reach out to women giving birth in jails.

OUR COMMUNITY

Mahlogonolo Thobile Foundation supports:

  • Pregnant women in private and public hospitals who have experienced premature birth
  • Children in Orphanage homes (particularly those who lost their parents during delivery)
  • Pregnant women in prison

OUR PURPOSE

Growing up, many people impacted my life in so many ways. My 2014 experience and the incredible support I received moved me to pay it forward. I felt the need to also give not because I have but because I know what it is like to go through a difficult period and would like to be there for them through the foundation.

I went through a pain I’ve never experienced before in my life, it shook me and my entire being. Today I am using my pain as collective support that women need when they undergo challenges during their pregnancies, realizing the importance of having a medical aid and the power of medical team support.

My experience got me saying, no women should go through such pain without support. Only a few survive it, many pass away with their unborn babies. One in every 5 women experience placental abruption and that was me in 2014. Not every pregnant woman goes through such a traumatic experience and recovers from it (regain sanity, physical strength) immediately.

One of the most pivotal causes the foundation supports, is that of premature birth. A challenging and emotional journey that many find it difficult to speak about in the beginning of the journey. In this spirit, we have enjoyed starting an online community that supports mothers who find themselves reeling in this unexpected and unplanned journey. We are therefore proud to announce that Mahlogonolo Thobile Foundation will be hosting its 1st ever, Fun Walk. Launching the fun walk to raise awareness on premature birth and the journey families soldier through.

With almost three years of operations, we have managed to help where we can. We donated new preemie baby essential items (nappies, wipes, receiving blankets and clothing items). We also reached out to orphanage homes by donating pre-loved clothing items and toys. Our plans are to do more for the preemie families, orphanage homes and also extend some love to women giving birth in prisons. Alone this will be a mammoth task but with your support, many families will receive your love and touch through your donations to the foundation.
